As winter gives way to spring, a sense of renewal is spreading across Freedom Acres Mustang Sanctuary. Warmer days, greener pastures, and longer sunlight hours bring new energy to the land—and to the rescued wild mustangs who call the sanctuary home.

At Freedom Acres, the mission is simple but deeply meaningful: provide rescued mustangs with a safe, permanent place where they can live peacefully and rediscover what it means to simply be horses.

For many of the animals that arrive at the sanctuary, life has not always been easy. Some come from uncertain or difficult situations, having experienced displacement, neglect, or the stress of being removed from their wild herds. When they first arrive, many are cautious and unsure of their surroundings.

But healing takes time—and space.

With patience, proper care, and the stability of a safe environment, something remarkable begins to happen. Horses that once stood quietly at a distance start to relax. They begin grazing alongside other members of the herd, exploring the pasture, and forming social bonds. Over time, their natural instincts return, and they rediscover the freedom of simply living as horses.

Watching that transformation is one of the most rewarding parts of sanctuary life.

Life at the Sanctuary

Caring for rescued mustangs is a year-round commitment. Throughout the winter months, the Freedom Acres team worked tirelessly to ensure the herd remained safe, warm, and well cared for despite the challenges of cold weather.

Daily life at the sanctuary includes:

  • Feeding and monitoring the herd

  • Providing veterinary and farrier care

  • Maintaining fencing and safe shelters

  • Ensuring horses have room to roam and socialize

Each horse has unique needs, and the sanctuary is dedicated to providing consistent, compassionate care to every animal on the property.

As spring arrives, the herd is enjoying more time roaming the pastures, interacting with one another, and settling further into their sanctuary home. Seeing horses that once lived in fear begin to relax, play, and form friendships is a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Every horse at Freedom Acres has a story—and every one deserves the chance to live with dignity and peace.

Ongoing Needs at the Sanctuary

Running a mustang sanctuary requires significant resources and constant attention. From daily feeding to veterinary care, the needs of the herd never stop.

Some of the sanctuary’s most important needs this spring include:

  • Hay and feed for the herd

  • Veterinary and farrier care

  • Supplies for daily horse care

  • Fence and shelter repairs

  • Continued progress toward building a barn and hay storage space

Developing additional infrastructure, such as a barn and secure hay storage, will help strengthen the sanctuary’s ability to care for its animals and expand educational and youth programs in the future.

Community support plays a critical role in making these goals possible.

How the Community Can Help

The work being done at Freedom Acres would not be possible without the support of compassionate individuals who believe wild horses deserve protection and respect.

There are many ways people can help support the sanctuary:

Donate: Financial contributions help provide feed, veterinary care, shelter maintenance, and other essential resources needed to care for the herd.

Share the Mission: Following and sharing the sanctuary’s story on social media helps raise awareness about the importance of protecting wild horses.

Advocate for Wild Mustangs: Wild horses continue to face threats from displacement, neglect, and slaughter. Education and advocacy are vital to ensuring these iconic animals remain protected.

Every act of support—whether large or small—helps create a safer future for rescued mustangs.

A New Way to Support the Horses

Freedom Acres has also launched a new online store, offering supporters a meaningful way to contribute to the sanctuary’s mission.

The store features handmade bath and body products, horse-inspired jewelry, and art created in celebration of the sanctuary’s beautiful mustangs. From relaxing bath salts and whipped soaps to unique gifts for horse lovers, each item is designed to reflect the spirit of the herd.

Even better, 100% of store proceeds go directly toward caring for the horses—helping provide hay, veterinary care, and everyday essentials that keep the sanctuary running.

By shopping the store, supporters can enjoy thoughtfully crafted products while making a real difference in the lives of rescued wild horses.

Looking Ahead

As spring continues to unfold, Freedom Acres Mustang Sanctuary remains focused on its mission: offering rescued mustangs a safe place to heal, roam, and live freely.

Each day brings small but meaningful moments—the quiet rhythm of grazing horses, the sight of new friendships forming in the pasture, and the knowledge that these animals now have the security they deserve.

With the continued support of the community, Freedom Acres can keep providing a peaceful forever home for the mustangs who need it most.
